Get fit in the pool with SwimFit
A few months ago we decided to trial a ‘SwimFit’ session in the pool with the hopes of encouraging people to utilise the pool in their exercise programming.
Swimming, and Aqua jogging is no new fitness trend by any means, it has, however, taken a back seat for many due to the lack of knowledge or ideas of how this fantastic piece of equipment can be used to best effect.
Swimming and aqua jogging are nothing like the traditional ‘Aqua Aerobics’ you see in the pool. SwimFit is purely based on either walking up and down the pool, or swimming up and down using different techniques to strengthen different muscles and joints. There are no dance moves in sight!
Since the class started a few months ago, it has been full every week, with the participants coming back in their own time throughout the week to do their own sessions with friends or on their own, using the things learned in the class.
Cottingham Parks Health Club Manager and SwimFit instructor says, “It’s absolutely fantastic to see people using the swimming pool as part of their fitness journey. The activity is so good for you I wish more would use it. It can be non-weight bearing and low impact so great if you have any bone or joint issues.”
SwimFit is currently on Mondays at 11 am on Mondays.
