Covid 19 Update 8/3/21 - GOLF CLUB
As the clock starts counting down to when we can play golf again, this weeks newsletter looks at course preparation, the start of competitions, try to answer some of your questions and info on annual subs.
Course preparation and condition.
The greenkeepers have been back at work for a few weeks now and the course is looking good. The height of the cut has been lowered so that by the 29th it will be back to 'playing height'. The green have all been aerated and have started to settle down nicely, although they will require top dressing once the temperature picks up and grass starts growing more.
Now that the fairways have dried up (although as I type, I look through the window to see the rain falling again), we have started some drainage work, the bulk of which we hope to have finished by the time we open again.
Our first Men's Competitions at both courses will be on the first weekend, 3rd & 4th April. The ladies and Eggs sections will be organising there own events.
There will be a shop stableford competition on Saturday 3rd April with an entry fee of £5. Due to the revised structure of the competition entry fees, the Skidby committee will now receive an agreed % of all entry fees. This money will then be used by the Skidby committee for the benefit of Skidby members.
There will be a shop stableford on Saturday 3rd April which will also form the first round of the Curry Cup. The Stableford entry fee will be £5, in line with Skidby entry fees and payable on the day. Again with the Cottingham committee receiving an agreed % of entry fees.
The entry fee for the Curry Cup, which runs throughout the season with the final in October will be £10 and includes a curry meal at the final event. Closing date for entries / payment will be 1st May which is also the date of the second round.
Sunday the 4th April will be Captains' drive in am-am. The entry fee will be £10 per person and include a snack (sausage roll or similar) & coffee at the halfway house. Also included in the entry fee is your guess for the combined distance of the 4 captains drive, a prize fund and donation to the Captains Charity.
PLEASE NOTE - CURRENT WHS HANDICAP LISTS WILL BE POSTED AT BOTH CLUBS
Your questions answered.
Q, Why are annual payers being disadvantaged with credits on members subscriptions compared to direct debit payers?
A, Simply answer is they are not. Costs have been calculated so that over a 2 year period anyone who stays a member and continues to pay in the same way as they did previously will end up paying roughly the same. there may be a few minor differences due to when subs fall for renewal and the differnce in joining dates.
Q, Are all members to receive £50 on their bar / membership card and when will this be applied?
A, The £50 credit applies to full paying 7 day members. 5 day members will receive a pro rata amount of £30. Unfortunately, Academy and Juniors will not qualify for the credit.
These credits will be applied in time for the clubhouse opening for inside use (currently 17th May).
NOTE- While most clubs around the country have continued to charge their members full price during the lockdown, the subscription payment breaks and bar credits offered by Cottingham Leisure are a good will gesture to our members for their support in the past and hopefully in the future. They are not a contractual obligation.
Q, Why are the Eggs and ladies being given block bookings, Surely this is not fair to other members?
A, We are trying to return to normal as quick as possible. This will include the re-instatement of block tee times for eggs, ladies etc, Considering the time of day and amount of tee times these take it is believed that the impact on tee time availability is minimal and therefore fair.
Q, Is a 2 hour window for booking tee times long enough?
A, Experience from the previous lockdowns would suggest that the first 2 hours would be more than enough to book everyone in, even for both courses, the second 2 hours is there in case needed. These times will be reviewed and extended if deemed necessary.
Q, Will the driving range be open
A, Yes, although social distancing will need to be adhered to with only one person / household per bay unless receiving instruction from one of our professional staff..
Q, What will happen to the AGM / presentation night (Cottingham) scheduled for last November?
A, This will now take place in the form of a bi-annual AGM and Presentation night in November 2021. In the meantime, anyone wishing to put themselves forward for Committee or raise any issues should do so with your current Captain Mr Steve Corbett.
