Covid 19 Update 4/5/20
Important information for the proposed re-opening of the golf course
Having looked at the various guidelines for golf courses re-opening we have now devised a future plan that we believe will work for both Cottingham Parks and Skidby Lakes when we are able to reopen.
We still have no date for reopening but are planning by working within the guidelines and frameworks from the Government and Golf Governing Bodies, which of course may yet change.
With all plans, in order for them to succeed, we will be relying heavily on your co-operation. So that it is easier to follow I have tried to break it down into sections.
It goes without saying that if you or any of your household have any signs of Corona virus please think of your fellow golfers / staff and stay away. I am sure you would expect others to do likewise.
Please give priority to greenkeepers, after all they are the ones preparing the course for your enjoyment. In the event of emergency please contact the pro-shop 01482 842394. In the case of a fire the emergency point remains the car park area behind the driving range.
In the early weeks of re-opening it is almost certain that tee times will be restricted to 2 balls. It is requested that wherever possible players book online. However, when at the club and checking in for a tee time a player will be able to book themselves ONLY a time for the following week. This on-site booking restriction is intended to give as many players as possible a fair chance to book a time and will be reviewed if necessary.
During our ‘lock down’ several changes in procedures needed to be implemented. The main change was in raising the height of the cut in all areas to reduce any unnecessary stress on the grass and prevent scorching etc. The height of these cuts will need to be lowered slowly so it may take a week or so to get back to their normal playing length. This should only really be noticeable on the greens which may be a little slower than expected in normal circumstances.
For collection of golf clubs from the locker rooms please see ‘Clubhouse’
Please arrive at the club no more than 15 minutes before your allocated tee time (30 minutes if you plan to use the driving range).
All players must check in at the Pro-shop which will be open from 7am to 7pm every day. We will be operating a one-way system with players entering through the main reception entrance and leaving through the exit to the golf course. Only one person at a time will be allowed into the shop to check in. There will be an area in the shop allocated to anyone who wishes to browse or ask questions outside of just booking in for their tee time but will need to queue before entering.
The putting green may be open (still to be decided depending on restrictions imposed) with up turned hole cups to prevent the ball dropping into the hole. Please note this is not an excuse for a social gathering and the 2 meters distancing must always be maintained.
We intend to open the driving range at the same time as the course. Only one person at a time will be allowed into the foyer to access the ball machine. Range cards or cash will be accepted. Once you have collected your golf balls you should proceed without delay to one of the bays. Only one person is allowed in a bay at a time. Should you need to pass someone on the corridor who is entering / leaving the range then you should step into one of the allocated ‘passing bays’ in order to allow them to pass without infringing on the distancing guidelines.

RULES OF PLAY:
Please queue for the first tee in order of your allocated tee time keeping 2 metres apart from your playing partner and other players.
Only one player on the tee at any time.
Do not exchange scorecards, balls, tees etc or pick up any balls found on the course.
Bunkers will be in play although no rakes will be out on the course. If you land in a bunker, you can smooth the bunker with your foot or club and place the ball before playing your bunker shot.
When looking for a ball keep your 2 metres distance or look for your own ball by yourself (please be conscious of slow play and those behind you).
When on the green you must not touch the flag stick which should always remain in the hole.
Holes will be fitted with a liner which will stop the ball dropping into the hole. Any ball striking the liner will be deemed to have been holed.
On completing your round do not shake hands but leave the course and return immediately to the car park before departing the site.
All benches, water fountains and ball cleaners will be removed or taped off to prevent use.
AGAIN, MAINTAIN YOUR SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILE OUT ON THE COURSE
Cottingham Parks – Exit the course via the bridge to the left of the green and proceed to the car park
Skidby Lakes - Follow the designated route from the 10th green to the 11th tee and on leaving the 18th green, proceed to the car park.
Drive on Buggies will be restricted to single use only and wiped down before and after each use.
There will be no pull trolleys available for hire.
The toilets in the reception area will remain open with a hand sanitiser positioned outside the door which should be used both before entering and upon leaving the toilet area.
The toilets on the course will be open but should only be used in an emergency (dare I say you men should find an appropriate tree)
Cleaning and sanitising
Cleaning and sanitising equipment will be positioned around the building / course for staff and customers to use accordingly.
We are looking at ways to open a halfway house facility based on a takeaway style and will update as and when we have reached an acceptable solution.
There will be no group lessons initially but any 1 to 1 lessons will be available on the range / short game area for anyone who wants to get back into the swing.
How and when competitions will resume is still unclear. While restrictions on course rules remain in place there will be no qualifying competitions. We will, however, look at ways we can introduce ‘fun events’ while still complying with the distancing requirements. Should this prove possible any conditions imposed or handicap changes incurred (winner loses a shot?) will only be temporary until ‘normal’ service is resumed.
Outside of the administration points both clubhouses will remain closed until such time as the restrictions covering bars and restaurants are eased. We understand that players who house the equipment in the locker areas will want to retrieve their clubs in order to be able to play. In order to facilitate this, we will, once we have a re-opening date, arrange a staffed day and time bracket for players to enter the locker room areas one at time to collect their clubs. Anyone who is unable to collect at this pre-arranged time will need to book an appointment to ensure that access to the locker rooms is available. Full details of how to arrange an appointment will follow once we have a date for opening the course.
We will endeavour to keep you updated as much as possible once we have further information about when we can open, and any further changes to these guidelines.
Stay safe and thank you for your continued support
