Covid 19 Update 11/5/20 - GOLF COURSE REOPENING

Monday 11th May 2020: Important information for the re-opening of the golf course

GOLF WILL RETURN FROM WEDNESDAY 13th MAY 2020

Following confirmation from the government that golf can resume on Wednesday 13th May we have now finalised the following procedures.

The main change from my previous update is on how to book, and the restrictions that go with this (please see Tee Times / Bookings).

Other changes are underlined with the addition of subscriptions at the bottom of this information.

Safety

It goes without saying that if you or any of your household have any signs of Corona virus please think of your fellow golfers / staff and stay away. I am sure you would expect others to do likewise.

Please give priority to greenkeepers, after all they are the ones preparing the course for your enjoyment. In the event of emergency please contact the pro-shop 01482 842394. In the case of a fire the emergency point remains the car park area behind the driving range.

Tee Times / Bookings

Until the 1st of June (at which point we will look to review) there will be NO advanced block bookings available to any section of the club. This is for no other reason than to be fair to all members when it comes to booking a tee time.

As always, tee times can be booked up to 7 days in advance but this will be restricted to members and members’ guests only.

It will be permitted for players to play in 2 balls with someone of their choice, providing social distancing is maintained. In order to give everyone a fair chance to book a tee time, individuals will only be able to pre-book a maximum of 2 tee times a week.

Any tee times not booked will be open for anyone to book on the day.

To allow our staff to monitor the bookings all tee reservations for both courses must be made by telephone. This can be done on Tuesday 12th May between 9am and 1pm by ringing 01482 846030, then from Wednesday 13th May, and any day thereafter, between the hours of 7am and 7pm by ringing the appropriate Pro-Shop (Cottingham 01482 842394 or Skidby 01482 844003). Due to the volume of members who have contacted us to say they have forgotten their log in details or not registered, the on line bookings system will not be re-instated until the 1st of June in order to allow for everyone to sort their details out.

Courses

During our ‘lock down’ several changes in procedures needed to be implemented. The main change was in raising the height of the cut in all areas to reduce any unnecessary stress on the grass and prevent scorching etc. The height of these cuts will need to be lowered slowly so it may take a week or so to get back to their normal playing length. This should only really be noticeable on the greens which may be a little slower than expected in normal circumstances.

For collection of golf clubs from the locker rooms please see ‘Clubhouse’

Cottingham Parks

Please arrive at the club no more than 15 minutes before your allocated tee time (should it be open, 30 minutes before if you plan to use the driving range).

All players must check in at the Pro-shop which will be open from 7am to 7pm every day. We will be operating a one-way system with players entering through the main reception entrance and leaving through the exit to the golf course. Only one person at a time will be allowed into the shop to check in. There will be an area in the shop allocated to anyone who wishes to browse or ask questions outside of just booking in for their tee time but you will need to queue before entering.

The putting green will be open with up turned hole cups to prevent the ball dropping into the hole. Please note this is not an excuse for a social gathering and the 2 meters distancing must always be maintained.

Driving Range

We intend (if permitted) to open the driving range at the same time as the course. Only one person at a time will be allowed into the foyer to access the ball machine. Range cards or cash will be accepted. Once you have collected your golf balls you should proceed without delay to one of the bays. Only one person is allowed in a bay at a time. Should you need to pass someone on the corridor who is entering / leaving the range then you should step into one of the allocated ‘passing bays’ in order to allow them to pass without infringing on the distancing guidelines.

Skidby

Please arrive at the club no more than 15 minutes before your allocated tee time.

All players must check in at the Pro-shop which will be open from 7am to 7pm. We will be operating a one-way system with players entering through the main shop entrance and leaving through the door to the toilet / locker area in order to access the golf course. Only one person at a time will be allowed into the shop to book in. There will be an area in the shop allocated to anyone who wishes to browse or ask questions outside of just booking in for their tee time.

The putting green will be open with up turned hole cups to prevent the ball dropping into the hole. Please note this is not an excuse for a social gathering and the 2 meters distancing must always be maintained.

Rules of play

General:

Please queue for the first tee in order of your allocated tee time keeping 2 metres apart from your playing partner and other players.

Only one player on the tee at any time.

Do not exchange scorecards, balls, tees etc or pick up any balls found on the course.

Bunkers will be in play although no rakes will be out on the course. If you land in a bunker, you can smooth the bunker with your foot or club and place the ball before playing your bunker shot.

When looking for a ball keep your 2 metres distance or look for your own ball by yourself (please be conscious of slow play and those behind you).

When on the green you must not touch the flag stick which should always remain in the hole.

Holes will be fitted with a liner which will stop the ball dropping to the bottom of the hole. A ball with any part below the surface of the green will be deemed holed. Should a ball strike the liner and come out of the hole it will be deemed 'rub of the green' and not to have been holed.

On completing your round do not shake hands but leave the course and return immediately to the car park before departing the site.

All benches, water fountains and ball cleaners will be removed or taped off to prevent use.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAINTAIN YOUR SOCIAL DISTANCING WHILST OUT ON THE COURSE

Cottingham Parks – Exit the course via the bridge to the left of the green and proceed to the car park

Skidby Lakes - Follow the designated route from the 10th green to the 11th tee and on leaving the 18th green proceed to the car park.

Hire equipment

Drive on Buggies will be restricted to single use only and wiped down before and after each use.

There will be no pull trolleys available for hire.

Toilets

The toilets in the Cottingham reception area will remain open with a hand sanitiser positioned outside the door which should be used both before entering and upon leaving the toilet area.

The toilets on the course will be open but should only be used in an emergency (dare I say you men should find an appropriate tree)

The toilets at Skidby adjacent to the Pro-shop will be open for use by anyone.

Cleaning and sanitising

Cleaning and sanitising equipment will be positioned around the building / course for staff and customers to use accordingly.

Halfway house

We are still looking at ways to open a halfway house facility based on a takeaway style and will update as and when we have reached an acceptable solution.

Lessons

There will be no group lessons initially but we hope to have any 1 to 1 lessons will be available on the range / short game area for anyone who wants to get back into the swing. This is still to be confirmed by the Government.

Competitions

How and when competitions will resume is still unclear. We hope to have something in place sooner rather than later. While the restrictions on course rules remain in place there will be no qualifying competitions. We will however look at ways we can introduce ‘fun events’ while still complying with the distancing requirements. Should this prove possible any conditions imposed or handicap changes incurred (winner loses a shot?) will only be temporary until ‘normal’ service is resumed.

Clubhouse

Outside of the administration points both clubhouses will remain closed until such time as the restrictions covering bars and restaurants are eased. We understand that players who house the equipment in the locker areas will want to retrieve their clubs in order to be able to play. In order to facilitate this the locker rooms will be opened on a one in, one out basis between 1pm and 4pm Tuesday 12th May at Cottingham and from 7am Wednesday for Skidby. Anyone who is unable to collect at these pre-arranged time will need to book an appointment to ensure that access to the locker rooms is available. to book an appointment ring the appropriate pro -shop from Wednesday.

Subscriptions

As you will know we had to close on 23rd March with members losing 7 days of their March subs. So that none of our members lose out, we will not be starting to collect any Direct debits until 1st June, effectively giving everyone 10 days of free golf.

For those who have paid 'up front' they will benefit from 2 months credit against their renewal date once due.

Anyone who had subs due for renewal while we have been closed are requested to pay on or before 1st June which can be done by ringing 01482 622852 Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.

Stay safe and thank you for your continued support
