A great result for our Juniors at Bridlington
I have been asked to write an essay about the Bridlington trip yesterday. Where do I start?
Firstly, let`s have a big thank you to all the adults who gave up their Sundays to support the JDP. As Chris Wescott said, I kissed the family goodbye at 10.a.m. and I get to see them again about 8pm!!
The weather was kind to us once more and a field of 48 took part. With both players counting on all the par 3`s and full handicap, there were some fantastic scores.
Early leaders in the clubhouse were Phil Marshall (on his first outing with the boys) and his partner Erjan Kuzu (winner in 2017) who posted a massive 55 points which was -11 under par. Phil was right in his summation in that he thought it may be a couple short as Paul Myers and Bobby then came in with a brilliant 58 (-14).
The timings were very good as everyone kept the pace up. The last fourball were the 'Junior Juniors' Ollie and Harvey. Because they are league One players and have never played a competitive match off the Red tees I advised them to come in when they got tired.
Harvey gamely played on when feeling under the weather but Ollie has matured beautifully this year and insisted on completing his first 18 holes under the CP banner and carrying his own clubs `cos his trolley only had two wheels!
Many thanks to Linzi and Sue for their kindness and patience with the two little ones.
IT CERTAINLY PAID OFF `COS SUE AND OLLIE WON!!!!!!!!
There was a stewards inquiry of course but the result stood.
The winning score was 62 pts. Unheard of in Betterball Comps. Anthony Howarth the Brid Pro was very complimentary about the score (once he had recovered). He had never seen such a small Professional golfer in his life until he met Ollie.
A long day and a tiring day but worth every penny when you see the look on all the lads faces and especially Ollie`s. His smiles were lighting up the room as he paraded his trophy.
Winners, Granny Sue and Ollie....62pts
Second : Paul and Bobby............58pts
Fourth: Phil and Erjan.................55pts
Sixth: Lynne and Jay...................54pts
Eighth: Del and Cooper.............52pts
Other prizes were:
Nearest the pin in the 2nd......Fin Marshall
Nearer the pin on the 11th......George Coope
I had the good fortune to meet another parent a week ago whose son Ram has just started at CP. He paid us an enormous compliment as his son loves his golf so much.
And I quote.'You are not just creating great golfers here. You are creating LEGENDS'
I really don`t need to say any more!
A very proud Ken (Junior Development Programme Organiser)
